In Psalm 42:1 2, it’s the person who thirsts after God. In Psalm 63:9, it was David himself (the person) they were trying to kill. In Jeremiah 52:29 30, nephesh is correctly translated three times as “persons.” In Genesis 12:13 and 19:20, “my soul shall live” means I shall live. The “soul” is the person in Gen. 17:14; 36:6; 46:15, 18, 22, 25-27; Ex. 1:5; 12:4-5, 19; Lev. 20:6; Deut. 13:6; Josh. 10:28-39; 11:11; Jer. 2:34; 26:19; Ezek. 18:4.
